Personal Trainer Book Review: Digestive Health

If you suffer from digestive disorders from heartburn, acid reflux, chronic constipation or IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), I recommend “Digestive Health with Real Food” by Aglaee Jacob. It is a user-friendly, practical guide addressing how to eat healthy, whole foods – that taste good – to heal your digestive and intestinal tracts. This will in turn lessen or eliminate altogether problematic symptoms. The author takes you step by step through how digestion works, common causes and irritants of digestive disorders, how to determine which foods to avoid and last; how to design a custom diet that’s best for you. The book also contains terrific recipes, meal plans, food lists and helpful charts.

“Digestive Health with Real Food” has helped me personally. For years I have suffered from excessive belching. (Quite annoying when trying to impress a date.) You might think I had too much stomach acid. In fact, doctors in the past have prescribed various medications to reduce my stomach acid, which never really helped. It turns out, I actually have very low stomach acid. Acid in the stomach is what breaks down food. Not enough acid results in food sitting in the stomach too long and it begins to ferment. Hence, belching occurs. I now take hydrochloric acid to supplement what my body is not producing. And guess what? No more belching. After all these years, the remedy was that simple!

The book is available on Amazon.com for $23. The author, Aglaee Jacob, also has a website. Check out:  www.paleo-dietitian.com
